development and quality assurance unit

Welcome to the Development and Quality Assurance Unit (DQAU) at the College of Dentistry (COD), previously referred to as the Academic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Unit. As the operational counterpart of the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) within COD, the unit collaborates closely with the governing body, the Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation (QAAA) committee. Its primary mission is to establish a resilient framework that emphasizes accountability, self-assessment, and the collection of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data, involving all stakeholders from the ground level and upwards. The unit is composed of two key sections: the Academic Quality Assurance and Accreditation section, and the Strategic Planning and Performance Management section. These sections work together to oversee a spectrum of essential responsibilities dedicated to advancing educational excellence and fostering continuous improvement.

UNIT CORE RESPONSIBILITIES THAT SERVE AS OUR GUIDELINE PRINCIPLES

  • Support college development and quality assurance.

  • Spread and sustain a culture of quality at the college level.

  • Periodically review and update college/program Strategic Plans and operational plans.

  • Propose initiatives to ensure the timely achievement of the college’s strategic goals and objectives.

  • Ensure the availability of updated Administrative Policies and Procedures.

  • Submit regular reports to the appropriate bodies upon their request.

  • Review the research strategy with the research unit and align it with the university’s mission.

  • Review committee formation orders within the college to prevent redundancy of charges.

  • Review resolutions of respective college committee meeting minutes/reports related to quality and academic accreditation and ensure the implementation of approved recommendations and measure their effectiveness.

  • Apply quality assurance principles based on the standards of appropriate national accreditation bodies (e.g., ECC-NCAAA, SCHS, and international) in different academic and non-academic units.

  • Lead the process of program applications for national and international accreditation, as applicable.

  • Ensure that program accreditation requirements are met in a timely manner.

  • Archive program accreditation documents for future enhancement.

  • Provide support for institutional accreditation/re-accreditation efforts.

  • Collect, analyze, and review reports, surveys, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and benchmarks submitted by different units.

  • Provide needed support to faculty, staff, and students in areas related to quality and development.

  • Ensure the systematic implementation of the curriculum, optimal utilization of learning resources, efficient educational management, and monitor the
    outcomes of academic programs.

  • Identify deficiencies in academic programs, curriculum, assessment, and evaluation, and suggest necessary improvement plans to the Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation (QAAA) Committee.

  • Oversee the progress of sections reporting to the unit.

  • Perform any other duties related to college development, quality assurance, and academic accreditation.

  • The DQAU operates in close collaboration with every department and unit within COD, fostering a holistic approach to quality assurance and development. Experienced faculty members, possessing significant expertise in the field of quality assurance, lead and run the daily functionalities of the unit. This collective effort ensures that our initiatives and strategies for enhancing educational quality are informed, comprehensive, and effectively implemented across all facets
    of the college.
